I enjoyed it, although it had a little bit of the "Ready Player One--let's throw a bunch of pop culture together" vibe. As the rules of book magic began to be explained, I found myself liking it more and more.

This took me a while to get through, partly because the writing feels very dense. I've always loved the Secret Library Society genre, and this one includes different species of vampires -- another favorite of mine. This just went on a tad too long, with a little too much going on and yet left some things rather vague in an odd way. For example, how can Isaac just leave his job and the library in such a state without someone saying something? And Lena's life and loves were just a little too stereotypical of many different women all rolled into one dryad. The explanations about how the magic works went on a little longer than they needed to without saying as much as needed to be said, like when Isaac used the magic in the books, it could have been perhaps clearer how the weapon was used in the original book. Repeating that a book needed to reach some critical mass before it (and the objects inside) "became real" wasn't as helpful.

Light, fun read. Especially good for fans of sci-fi and fantasy books, as there are a lot of references to fan favorites.

Loved the concept of this, but it bogged down a bit in the last 1/3.

Boooooooooks. And magic which takes a cost. And a logical threesome ending. And VAMPIRES.

I liked it.

I picked this up on the recommendations of friends and writers alike, and I wasn't disappointed. I really enjoyed the non-traditional romance and the entire premise of libriomancy.

A Note on the Audiobook:
I had to stop listening to this one and borrow the physical copy from a friend because the narrator was making me crazy.

Premise was great and there were a lot of fun lines. I mostly gave this one 5 stars instead of 4 b'c of the location--it's the only sci-fi I've ever read that took place in the small Michigan towns where I spent much of my childhood (Copper River and Mecosta!)

I am not a big sci-fi fan but I still found this book fun. I'm not sure I'll rush out and read the rest of the series but I enjoyed it.
