Probably one of the best so far. The alien twist really brought the story together and I'm excited to learn more. The conclusion will only be that much more intense!

I mean I definitely saw everything that happened coming, which isn't necessarily bad but did take a bit of the suspense the book relies on away...

Since I am reading these kind of all at once, I'm going to just comment on the series. It's hella fun!!!! I immediately got into it - that lost family moving into an old relic of a house with a ~mystery~ will always get me. And then add on the fantastical world they find in their basement, a winner! The installments read so fast, it's like a 30 min TV episode. They are action packed and Kibuishi really encapsulates every aspect of the action despite only having a few panels. The story is like a combo of every fantasy/sci fi movie, TV show, and book you have ever loved - elements of Narnia, Indiana Jones, Titan AE, etc. I can see why they are so popular and I wish they existed when I was younger!

As I read they feel very episodic and I wish each installment had a little more written depth but as a whole they sing.

The artwork is absolutely stunning and some of the characters are great. I wish Emily was a little more interesting but maybe that will develop.

Still so fun!

Had to trudge through this one.

Fantastic art. That was the only thing that kept me going through this book. The plot seems to have no direction and very random stuff keeps popping up in the plot for no reason. With the way it is progressing, I feel like the end will be very anticlimatic. The power struggle with the stone was bound to happen and honestly feel like it has already been stretched far too much at this point. Very predictable plot with some great artwork.

And now we know what's going on? kind of? Cool art continues. So many of these pages are just absolutely beautiful. And the cast of characters are all different and interesting. And the world just keeps expanding. All with keeping the adventure just rocking along. This series has definitely been a surprise to me. It's not super deep and it's aimed young. But it just works.
