I hoped that the world building and plot would be more developed in this one but it still kinda fell flat for me. The romance also was kinda meh tbh😭 I dont really see how isolde and Adrian are actually into each other you know?
I really do like isolde though, I think she's a badass and she's so okay with the violence and punishments against traitors I fucking love ittt
Even though I this book is just okay, I think I'll still read the next one just because I wanna know how it ends

This book fell short against book 1.  While I do love Adrian, I feel like he completely disappeared as a character and was treated like a reason to write smut. Isolde says it herself, “all we do is fight and fuck.”

For me this was more of a back story book that really got you connected with the characters and their traumas with some sprinkles of happy moments and spicy scenes. While also showcasing how the character navigate through the traumas even in times of strife. I will be waiting in anticipation for book 3.

I genuinely loved the first book. This one not so much. I found Adrian to be boring and Isolde insufferable. Her solution to every problem she encounters is to be intimate with her husband even at (what I presume to be) inappropriate times. The conflict in this book was lack luster. There was no sense of impending doom like there was in the first book. Genuinely it felt like some of the major plot point of this book were unnecessary. Some of the major reveals lacked the ability for me to care about any of it. At the end of the first book when it was revealed Isolde was reincarnated, I was desperate to learn about how that would affect her going forward. All it did was make her insecure when she was so strong and independent before.

THAT ENDING!! Scarlett St. Clair, get your self over here and tell me happens next this INSTANT!

This story is so poignant, given the political climate. It's a story where women, especially those deemed more powerful than men are targeted. And it doesn't slap you in the face right out of the gate. Oh no, Ms.St. Clair draws you in, makes you fall in love with these characters, has you rooting for these characters, invested in their lives then BAM! The true motive for Ravena is revealed. And I can't say I disagree with her, or am mad about it.

Looking back I can see the signs that Ana is Ravena. And back when Isolde was Yesenia and was pregnant when she burned made me mad af. Among all the other things Drago did to her of course. So much was torn away from Yesenia, and the more Isolde remembers of her past and the more people target and underestimate her, I think the more unstoppable she will become. Isolde and Adrian are morally grey characters, but honestly I'd be okay if they became the villains.

I'm just not sure how the goddesses and Adrian play into Ravena's motivations and goals. Also what is the seed her Mom gave her? How did she see/visit her Mom?

It's repetitive, and I've grown to dislike the characters. I keep trying to power through because I don't have much left, but I can't anymore. I keep stopping because I cringe at a line or I notice whole sentences being repeated over and over again. The narrator for the lead, Lilly Drake, has a really good voice; its very soothing and fits the character well. But I dont care much for the other narrator. I also find myself more interested in side characters than the leads.
