A read that I sort of enjoyed, but plagued by too many characters that are given the same level of importance and have names way too similar (Dessie, Duffy, Biddy, Elsie), which makes things quickly confusing and makes it impossible to give them good arcs or well rounded personalities. The story drags on for the first 75% and has everything happen in the last hundred pages, which I saw coming, but I found the resolution underwhelming nonetheless. It felt like reading Call the Midwife, but with nurses in Liverpool and with less of the charm and quality of the show.
Really mind the content warnings. I wish I had known.

NB: I had no idea this book was written by an anti abortion Tory MP who promotes abstinence as a means of contraception (my bad honestly, the name rang a bell but I didn't realise this was where I'd heard it). At least certain things make sense now. Thank God I got this book for free.
