Breaking Free: How I Escaped Polygamy, the FLDS Cult, and My Father, Warren Jeffs by Rachel Jeffs

Reading this immediately after Stolen Innocence gave me a gut wrenching look at the inside of the FLDS community and the abuses that ensued.
When she wrapped up her book in 2016, the timeline shook me. I knew it wasn't ancient history by any means, but while this woman was escaping the nightmare that had been her entire life, I was consumed in the 2016 election.
Humbled doesn't encompass it.

At times this was difficult to read because of the degree of abuse and control that took place. It is hard to fathom how Warren Jeffs continued to dictate, regulate, and destroy lives from behind bars: a sobering look at the profound distortion and brainwashing that takes place within a cult.

Utterly heartbreaking and so important to read. Rachel's survival and discovery of her own independence was poignant and kept me hooked. The actions of Warren Jeffs are abominable, and he deserves to rot in prison. I hope more escape his clutches.

Listened to the audiobook version, and you can really hear her struggles in her voice at points. Beautifully written, and eye opening. I want nothing but the best for her future. ♥️

While I don’t necessarily recommend the audio, the book itself is great.
