This is the third Beverly Jenkins historical I have read and is my favorite so far! Raven comes from a large family in New Orleans that runs heists and scams and Braxton is a wealthy tailor from Boston. A detective blackmails Raven and Braxton into stealing back a copy of the Declaration of Independence from a Senator by posing as his married employees. The historical setting is the South after the end of Reconstruction.
As always, the author incorporates Black American history so well. She is also so good at writing fun family dynamics. The heist premise and Raven and her family's antics were really fun, and the romance between Raven and Braxton was really sweet. I also loved the side romance of Raven's mother and Braxton's father rekindling the romance they had when they were young. The reason this is not 5 stars is that the pacing was a little off because some of the conflicts and issues felt rushed in at the end and were resolved a little too easily and hastily.

Minor: Slavery, Death of parent, and Murder
