I was not expecting this to be a feel good book, but it was! I loved the cultural references and how introverted Petra is while still being adventurous. Blaze is… kind of a dream man. I would swoon.

I’m obsessed with Mo and her meddling. This is exactly how I want to be when I’m an old lady. If you’re wanting a lighter intro into spice or supernatural books, this one is perfect!

I can’t wait to continue this series and get to know the characters even more!

“‘Do you wake up every morning with dreams of how you can stick it to the man with your every action?’
‘Yes, actually. You don’t?’”

“If I spend the rest of my nearly immortal life flickering you to libraries across the world, just to be in your presence, I’d consider myself the luckiest demon there ever was.”

This book wasn’t for me. I went into it blindly, and I probably shouldn’t have. I was bored and ended up skipping a lot. I was expecting more of the mystery, and it was too insta-love for me. Lots of language (not really my style) and skippable open door scenes.

⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 stars (I rounded up)! Smoke Show is book 1 of the Deadlights Cove Series. This series covers different characters’ stories in a small town in Maine. The town consists of witches, demons, shifters, and angels all hidden from the outside world by glamours. Book 1 was the story of Blaze and Petra. Petra is a professor at Boston College coming to the small town to conduct research. Blaze is a confident, fun, powerful half-demon/half-witch who puts a wrench into her plans.

This was such a cute paranormal rom-com. Blaze was so sweet and funny. The moment where he was preparing for their first date was one of my favourites.

At this point it is safe to say I adore their writing and will read anything they write from here on out.

I discovered them through their first book in their newest series 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗹𝗳 and had a fantastic time reading that one too.

The banter, the jokes, the romance, the spice. Everything is perfection. The two of them have a gift for making every character extremely lovable in very different ways. What impressed me most? Is the fact that EVERYBODY IS FUNNY 😭 but in a way that fits their unique character?

I mean, you have to be one HILARIOUS person to be able to write multiple funny people with different types of funny for each one.

Their books are so easy to read. I read wild wild wolf in a single day and had I not been busy I definitely could’ve devoured Smoke Show in a day too.

I really liked the vibes of this book. I love a small town book, with fantasy and a bit of a mystery. However I found it to be disappointing at times, and had a few main issues:

- The MC (human) takes way way too long to find out about magic. As the reader knowing about it and it being super obvious, it made her feel dumb. Which given her education and background was a dumb choice. I would have preferred a bit more speculation on her part, or just finding out sooner.

- There was no connection between the two main characters, they meet a couple of times, hang out and then have an insta-love connection. I have no issue with insta-love, as long as they connect after the fact, but this fell short.

- This book is self-published, which is great, but I think it could have done with a bit more editing at times. For example the MC has a quirky sense of style (like Zooey in New Girl), but at times her outfits sounded horrendous - I think a bit more editing would have picked up on this.

Overall, I enjoyed it and will probably continue with the series. Mainly cause I want the mystery to be solved!
