Despite finding the back-and-forth storytelling a little disruptive for the pacing at times, this was a really unique book that dealt with some horrific topics in a really beautiful way. The narrative voice was especially strong, and even if certain sections were a little repetitive (which took me out of the story a bit), the urge to get to the bottom of things -
even though deep down you likely already suspect the ending
- really swept me away!

A lot of things that drove me crazy about this book were definitely intentional, stylistic choices. I hated the all caps, the limited first person narration and the way the sentences were almost child-like. That being said, I think all these things matched the theme and added to the dystopian level creepiness. Overall it was well-written and an interesting critique on society.

Read this on recommendation from a friend and I'm so glad I did. Normally I'm weary of highly awarded literary authors as I fear their work will go over my head but this was the perfect level for what I wanted. I plan on reading all of Ishiguro's backlog at some point.

(BASIC NOTES) Writing style is haphazard and diary-like which I found jarring sometimes, but the characters are intracately constructed. Plot is a bit jumpy which was sometimes confusing, but the ending which tied up meaning was beautiful and devastating...

never let me go has always been a novel that people have generally said is pretty good and a must read. i will say that i feel a little disappointed in it, only in that it was built up so much and it didn’t reach what i thought it would be. maybe if i didn’t have a preconceived notion of it i would think it was pretty alright. at the core of this novel is the love between three friends who are as close as family, both love wise and fighting wise. for this reason i think this novel would have been better suited to a 3 person pov style. i didn’t find Kathy to be a particularly interesting protagonist and I found Ruth and Tommy to be much more engaging. still, not a bad novel. just a bit too slow and on the edge of boring for me.
