This book was great for learning, and real view into his world. Between this and my history program we have a better understanding of feudalism. (Written by my 11 year old)

I enjoyed this "living book" much more than my seven year-old, but it is recommended for ages nine and up. Nice illustrations.

It was okay. The reading was difficult because it was made to "sound" (horribly) like it would have been written back then. Meh.

During Christmas at the family bach, I had the chance to re-read some old favourites, of which this is one. This book is the perfect blend of fact and fiction, being both informative and quirky. The writing is interesting, it is easy to read well still being evocative of the time, the illustrations are perfect (though I may be biased, in my eyes Chris Riddell can do no wrong) and overall it's great. I may have to invest in my own copy rather than waiting for the next bach trip.

A quick read that shows the workings of a castle and the status of the people in it. The illustrations are a great asset.

Lavishly illustrated but clearly geared for a young audience (perhaps between 2nd-5th grade). Older readers might naturally move from this on to Karen Cushman or Kevin Crossley-Holland's The Seeing Stone.

This book was enjoyable. It is written in simple language and tells a story meant to teach. There isn't a much of a plot, but there are many stories that are continued over many journal entries. This book was fun to read but probably made for younger readers.
