There were some individuals included in this book that I did not know about, and even more details that I wish had been included.

This was fine. Lovely art and nice use of the “because of” text structure. But why only two books listed for further reading? That feels very strange.

Because Claudette tells the often "missed" story of a young Claudette Colvin who was an instrumental part of the Montgomery Bus Boycott. She was a teenager at the time in which she refused to give up her seat BEFORE Rosa Parks. Her story isn't as widely known. This book reflects on how her act of defiance and resistance set into motion a historic event that eventually changes the course of the Civil Rights Movement in this country.

Fantastic! Love the text structure of this story. Will be a great addition to collections and text sets around the Civil Rights movement, especially to emphasize that Rosa Parks was not the only one who refused to give up her seat and it wasn't a spur of the moment decision, and to show the impact kids can have.
Was left wanting a timeline in the backmatter, though, as I found myself searching dates/names to get the timeline and connection between all the players a bit better.

Using a framework of “Because…” we learn the story of a teenager who didn’t give up her seat on the bus before Rosa Parks took her historic sit. The “Because…” framework falls down at times in a distracting way.
