Like the best old fairy tales—dark, delicately balanced. Beautifully descriptive, interlocking stories set on a flat world like something straight out of mythology. Enjoyable, if grim.
Moderate: Death, Rape, and Murder

Not really a novel but five or six loosely connected stories that I think do a very good job of capturing the folktale/1001 nights vibe. Compared to other Lee novels I've read the plot of each moves at a fair clip, more like linked short stories. None overstays its welcome.
It's a sensual feast. Lee's craft in mood and description really shines here, although I will note that you are in for some outlandish erotic metaphors.
Azhrarn is simply a dude who fucks. he's clearly the focus of the book and he bears the spotlight well. There is also exactly the right amount of world-building for this genre (very little, but what there is fires the imagination).

I hesitate to tag incest here because the relationship is so mythical in character, but Azhrarn adopts Sevish as a baby and then takes him as a lover. This happens in the first few pages and it's not really returned to but I think it should be noted.mikepalumbo's review against another edition
