I loved the beginning of this urban fantasy/portal to another world. Helen is given a plea for help, a beautiful orb, and the instructions to blink twice and run for the train. From there she is hurled into another world of Carriers, Patrolmen, Dwarves, and an unspeakable evil, Mara Rouge, the Queen of the Red Kingdom. I loved the world building, the Patrolmen captured my heart, and the quest was worthy. The story fell apart for me at the end. It’s been three days since I finished it and I still can’t sort it all out. So I will post this as 4 stars as 80% was amazing for me and the last bit shattered like two gold coins crashing together.

It was so cozy! I wanted to make all the food recipes and fall asleep on the train with a tasty cup of hot chocolate. Loved the characters, were relatable and full of life. It was a lot of fun to read. I couldn't put it down!

Overall a good read, main character could have just contributed abit more. Or more character development

Did not care for the world building - couldn't picture anything and was generally confused.

Book Review for A Soul as Cold as Frost byJennifer Kropf

This was an extraordinary novel! The author does an amazing job merging the fantasy world and the present together! I really enjoyed how this book is written. There isn't a long drawn out part in the beginning for the world building and the character development it's sprinkled out throughout the whole book! The relationship between the main characters is also very interesting! I liked that the author made it easy for us to relate to Helen! Oh and the storyteller cut ins are great you get to see a situation from a different point of view! Beautifully written and definitely a book to get lost in!
