I think by book 3 you know how you feel about this story even if you don't have words for it.
I was highly confused often, but still found myself rooting for Jade and Letha. I honestly find myself wanting to reread the whole trilogy because my slasher/ horror knowledge is not deep enough to catch every nuance thrown at us for clarification. Jade's journey will not be for everyone. If you want clear cut answers and a reliable narrator, that's not this type of horror novel (rabbit trails abound here). However, this book is clearly the end of the trilogy and it feels right.
Graphic: Pedophilia, Abandonment, and Gore
Moderate: Animal death, Child death, and Addiction
Minor: Medical content and Suicide attempt

Book three of the Indian Lake Trilogy pulls no punches with the esoteric horror movie references and elaborate deaths. I love Jade in My Heart Is a Chainsaw and Don't Fear the Reaper, so I had really high hopes for the final installment.
The first 30% had me riveted but then fell flat. With the change of POV between all the books, the first person point of view in this ended up being my least favourite. Jade wasn't back to her fever dream dialogue of book one but she just couldn't keep my attention with the meandering. There ended up being too many out of nowhere threads to wrap up and I lost my sense of caring. I don't know how I managed to be bored with chainsaws, bears, and "Chucky" but it happened.
Happy to have read and finished the trilogy, but I think I'll be imagining that it's only a duology.

SGJ weaves a story about surviving trauma, monsters in the lake, monsters that are people, final girls, generational trauma, and history into a slasher story that fits together like a bloody puzzle.
A perfect sendoff to Jade, and the horrors she's survived.
Moderate: Pedophilia
