For fans of The Decemberists, the PNW, and fantasy, comes the rich world of the Impassable Wilderness. Colin Meloy tells the story of Prue McKeel, a young girl living in St. John’s. Tasked with babysitting her brother Mac, a normal day at the park turns disastrous when a murder of crows whisk Mac away into the Impassable Wilderness; Prue embarks on a rescue mission with the help of her classmate Curtis, filled with twists and turns, colorful characters, and a race against time.

Wildwood is the first of a three-book series that is fantastic for young and old alike.

A really fun and lovely book - but I feel that some of the language used is a little too advanced for the middle grade audience, as is the amount of political intrigue. Also the way this novel deals with killing feels very dark for a middle grade novel, with a young boy killing multiple soldiers early on in the novel
and almost the entire Coyote army being killed.
Again, I enjoyed the story and thought the plot was fun and engaging, but the weird mix of middle grade-appropriate whimsy with violence, politics and the outright child grooming as well as the very advanced vocabulary made this less enjoyable when I really thought about what I was reading.

If Narnia and LOTR had a baby it would be this book.

This was a very cute story and a good reminder that a new adventure can be right around the corner anytime and that life can change so suddenly.

I would have liked this book a lot more if it had been 100-150 pages shorter because it did drag tremendously at times, and, truthfully, the ending was kind of 50/50 for me, but, nonetheless, it was a great story.

It's fun, suspenseful, and will completely change the way you look at everything. It's a great autumn read, although being the extremely long 500+ page book that it is, it'll probably take you longer than just one season to finish.

This book was very long and meandering - quite like a hike through a forest - and not for me. The elements of fantasy felt disappointingly understated, and my brain could not latch on to a purpose for any scene. Had this been shorter, more obviously dual perspective, and pushed some fantasy to the forefront, I think I may have at least liked it. But as it stands, the length and pace overshadowed everything else.
