Amy Bloom’s Lucky Us is a beautifully written coming of age story exploring the struggles of family and the resilience of the human species. Eva’s had a rough childhood. Left by her mother at the doorstep of her father’s new family home, Eva turns to her half-sister Iris for direction in life. Iris leads the girls to 1940s Hollywood in search of her big break, which never seems to come. Broke and joined again by their father and their new friend, Francisco, this new family travels across the country to New York City. New York brings new characters, heartache, strength, love and a new start to Eva and her family as Eva learns just how lucky she really is.

it took me ages to finish this book. I'd get drawn in and then it would drop me off again. I was disappointed because Sales and Crabb loved it. it was a good read but not up there. it was a bit too far fetched at times.

Note to self: I'm too old to keep reading books that don't grab me from the first chapter. This was a total waste of my time. No redeeming qualities or memorable characters. Disjointed and clunky. ):

This book SHOULD have been good. A fallen starlet, WWII, New York City, family drama...but it just didn’t deliver. Near the end, I thought maybe it would redeem itself when a character decides to become a doctor. Instead, it focused on her getting married. Womp womp
