Quite an enjoyable account of Lincoln's days as a circuit lawyer, including details on a few of the cases that he was involved with.

Mostly the illustrations are ok but I don't understand the oddly colored ears and noses!

Read this one with a student, and she really enjoyed it! I'm so used to these early readers being fiction, cutesy books about Frog and Toad, Fly Guy, Pete the Cat, etc. I LOVE that I've found a few that are non-fiction. This isn't a history of Abraham Lincoln, or the Civil War- not too "non-fiction-y" for students who aren't interested or ready for deep history. Instead, it focused on a fun fact about Abe (the letters he keeps in his hat) and incorporates some history along with it. My student was totally into it, giggling at the silliness of these letters in his hat, and making predictions along the way. This book also has useful illustrations- she was able to use the pictures to help with comprehension, figure out words, etc.

I recommend to use with young readers.

Next read: I also recommend George Washington and the General's Dog. Another president featured, with one side story that young readers will love. It will help them connect to history through a point of interest!
