Rereading my all time fave series. I first read this between 2006-2008 and love it just as much now as I did then!

I have had this series on my to be listened to for a long time now. I like to binge a series and this one is a long one.
It is slightly different to books I listen to normally.
Things I liked about this book was the characters, narrator and the humour. The plot keep moving and I found I didn’t get bored.
Things that I would have like more would be romance and spice, looking forward to continuing the series.
Vamps, pixies, witches and more

It took me a while to get into. Rachel is pretty unwise, but it felt more like a character trait than a writing flaw. I don't need my characters to always be hyper competent and clever.

Hmmmm. 3.5? There was a lot of potential, but this book was DEFINITELY written in the 2000s. There's some dated stuff, for sure—she mentions someone has an "Oriental" look to them, and there's a line about someone who has a "throaty voice only black men and vampires are allowed to have" which was awkward. I also didn't really like the way she kept reacting to Ivy, her vampire roommate. There were definitely some feelings there (for sure on Ivy's side) and Rachel kept being all "I feel drawn to her, NOT THAT I'M GAY I DON'T THINK, NOPE, DEFINITELY LIKE MEN" and I don't think this is gonna turn into a gay thing, so, it was weird. Also, it's wild that they just decided to completely outlaw bio-med because of one thing that went wrong. I mean, looking at it from a modern lens and the way people reacted (or didn't) to Covid, that would never happen lol.

But I liked the potential and I'm desperately looking for something to fill the Kate Daniels hole in my heart, so I will give the second book a try.

I didn’t know what was going on half the time and the build up feels like it was taking ages even with the quips and jokes
