Woah.

Just like it's title characters, the past doesn't die. Still recovering from the consequences of Vol. 1 and fighting to exist in a world getting too small for them, Andy and the others must confront who they have been, who they are, and who they want to be. But immortality, friendship, regret--these are not simple things. With everything on the line and the demons of the past coming for blood, even fighting to do the right thing for another day can be a challenge. With Force Multiplied Rucka, Fernandez, and the rest of the creative team take the story further and deeper, pushing Andy and the others into the crucible that will shape them for centuries to come--if their own time doesn't end first.

I mentioned in my review that I'm not usually much of a graphic novel reader, and that carries through to this book as well. Often I found the drawing style just a little too chaotic to understand what was happening (and God help me when the characters were wearing hats - without hairstyle, I struggled telling one character from another). Still, it made me excited for the next movie, which is the only reason I picked up this series in the first place. A fine graphic novel, just not for me!

This is a great series. It has definitely made me love graphic novels again. The characters, the storyline and the themes are amazing and thought provoking. How hard can one person fight? Which is humanities dominate trait: good/kind or evil/selfish? How does isolation affect our choices. These are deep questions and I love the format the questions are presented. Also the Netflix movie is amazing.

I've got to reiterate that I'm not really the right audience for graphic novels in general, and I think I like this story a lot more when told in film form. Still, I'm happy I've given these graphic novels a shot, and I will definitely be reading the third volume when it arrives someday!

Overall, I felt like elements of the first volume were sort of erased here. Like, Booker was banished for a reason, and then in the mission to find him, there was never really any conversation about his past sins. Especially since Copley was there, and you would think it would come up... I guess I was looking for a bit more cohesion there.

I loved getting to meet Noriko, and the fact that her experiences have clearly damaged her, but she's not completely out of her mind, in the sense that she actually does want to use words to convince Andy, and she doesn't run around blowing her cover for no reason. That makes her more deadly than ever! That ending, with Andy and Noriko, was legitimately chilling, but I can't blame Nile for what happened at all!

Nile was probably highlight for me here, especially the way she took charge at the end and started ordering all the men around. She's good at it, and it feels like her natural role within the group. Excited to see how that might play out in the final installment!
