I totally thought I'd figured out the ending and I was pretty damn wrong.

Boring as fuuuuuuuuuuuck. Not one of these characters is remotely interesting and nothing happens until the final few pages.

Update 9/7/2021: it hasn't even been a month and I have zero memory of this place. Clearly a memorable read lmao

“...a noise. A racket. A clamor. A whole hullabaloo.” This is just a sample of one of the many unnecessary lists you’re in for if you pick this up, which I strongly urge against, dear readers. Save yourselves.

My eyes still hurt from all the rolling they were involuntarily doing while reading. Someone called this book a “slow burn,” but I’d more accurately call it someone trying to use a lighter that’s out of fluid and after so many flicks, they just toss it in the trash and walk away. I did not see an 18 year old boy nor a young 20’s girl represented in those pages, but instead characters so forced I wanted to vomit. No young person, and I really do mean this, both announces they’re sitting “criss-cross applesauce” AND admits to all the one night stands they’re having. And don't even get me started on the constant use of the phrase "to boot."

So many times I wanted to shake the main character. Call the police. Call your roommate. Don’t cover for her at work. STOP BEING AN IDIOT. There was absolutely no suspense, and the ending? ABSURD. Not everything has to be a GD love story. Read the room, Mary K. There’s a girl who was just rescued after being tortured and kidnapped – no one needed a first kiss right now. The praise for this book is baffling.

This book was about my neighborhood so it was fun to read! I enjoyed it but wish it would have not had such a slow burn

I listened to the audiobook and I was thoroughly confused for the first half of this book. Once I finally figured out who was who, and who was speaking each chapter, it all started to make sense. This was a nice and twisty mystery. Looking forward to reading more of Mary Kubica's work in the future.

the buildup of the book is way too long- 110 pages in and no such primary evidence of Esther going missing.

Sorry Mary but I cried a little at the end. I devoured this book and, like Quinn, grew more and more confused the farther I got into it. But like Alex, all I could do was watch it all unfold once the lightbulb went off. Masterful story telling. Red herrings. But clues that are more than coincidences.

Quinn's dutiful roommate goes missing and during the search Quinn discovers her roommate may not be who she thought she was.

Novel about a girl who is missing and the roommate who tries to find her. She uncovers a different roommate than she expected. The middle dragged on but the ending was superb.
