Very wonky Bristolian accent from the female narrator. Would’ve preferred they just cast someone from Bristol.

Four best friends—Liz, Maggie, Helena, and Joni—celebrate their friendship each year with an annual girls trip. This year, they are trading cocktails on the beach for mountain climbing in Norway. As the women hit the hiking trails, each is carrying more than just camping gear—marriage woes, burnout, a surprise pregnancy, and more. The further they climb, the more dark secrets emerge. And the further away they are from civilization, the more it becomes clear that they are not alone in the wilderness. There is no cell phone coverage, no help…and no one to hear them scream.

Told from the perspectives of each of the four women, this adventurous thriller explores the power of friendship and nature. Set in the picturesque mountains of Norway, this novel had an engaging plot and lovable characters. It took awhile for the action to really begin, but once it did, they were so many shocking twists and revelations. I was not a fan of the ending, but I will say it was definitely unexpected. Overall, a captivating survivalist thriller that I highly recommend you add to your summer reading list.

Thank you to NetGalley and PENGUIN GROUP/G.P. Putnam's Sons for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A solid 3.5. It didn’t become a page-turner that I expect from most mysteries/thrillers until the 75% mark.

At times, the writing style made it hard to distinguish between any of the women except for Joni, especially in the beginning. I also noticed the frequent use of very specific words such as “sluice” which took me out of the story a bit.

It took me awhile to piece together the different storylines, but I thought it was clever and done well. A bit too much exposition in the beginning, but once you get past that the storyline does pick up. I did empathize with Joni, but I was still annoyed at her most of the time. I was not expecting the ending and my jaw dropped.

I would recommend this book to mystery fans and especially to those looking to get into the genre.

This book was incredible, I highly recommend it. It was tense and intriguing enough without actually setting me on edge or making me jumpy like some other thriller/murder mysteries. I found the characters to be fascinating and multifaceted in a way that gave them a lot of life and invested me further into the plot. Great book!
