Eh. Feels equally like a good idea only half executed, and a bandaid ending when they couldn't find the right one. Also the pov from his side is generally gross, honestly.

Picked up this book because it was on Kindle Unlimited and I enjoyed the authors Tiktok account. But oh man was this a hot mess of a book. Only reason I didn’t DNF was I wanted to know who the killer was and WOW was that ending unsatisfying and way out of left field. Not a single character had any redeeming qualities or a single shred of my sympathy or respect left by the end. Not to mention just how entirely unrealistic or feasible this entire investigation and scenario was from a legal standpoint. We also had some very poor references/depictions of assault and police brutality. I reserve one star reviews for books I DNF but honestly I am tempted to break my rule for this one.

Not at all accurate to actual law/true crime but overall an exciting read

I actually called who the killer was an eon before the reveal. Some secrets were a surprise, but not that one. Although, something I hate in thrillers is the info dump epilogue and that’s exactly what this was.

Another thing that made this fall flat for me is that I disliked all the characters and didn’t feel any emotion/sympathy toward any of them.

That being said, excluding the epilogue info dump, this was tightly plotted with lots of elements that were still easy to follow. It’s a very classic thriller and would potentially be a good intro to the genre.
