I'm certain I read this book as a kid, but I remembered very little of it. After revisiting it, I think it's pretty easy to see why I didn't have a lot of memory of it. It's not often that I like the movie better than the book, but in this case the film was hands down the better of the two. The book is a fair bit darker than the movie, which made it feel a little less familiar and that was fine, but overall I wasn't that into it and might not have bothered if it hadn't been such a fast read. I definitely should have left this one in my childhood.

I just really enjoyed reading this. So much fun and so different from the film! A little more violent than I expected, but it's not graphic.

I read this book (and the entire series) multiple times in middle and high school, but haven't read it since. And then I saw that some one was going to serialize it into chapters and I just had to reread it! It was very good, holding up remarkably well for something writing in 1900.
