After the last book I low key hated I kinda needed something to fix my reading mood so I grabbed this (lol reading this while the coronation of a new british king was happening was lowkey funny). It's lighthearted fun. I don't feel i will be obsessed with it like the others. Will not think it to be top 10 best lgbt books or anything. The comparisons to Young Royals now feel a bit insulting to young royals since I feel like they've been handling the topic better. Like it's clearly a book that's written in reaction to 2016 election. If it was straight I would call it trashy romance book but of course because it's gay that's a level that elevates it.  I enjoyed it a lot but just don't consider it some great quality of writing.
In any case it did it's job. It did what it was supposed to do

First of all, let it be known that Kit Connor is my Henry. Second, I thought it was amazing that Alex was bisexual and biracial AND the first woman president’s son. Hell yeah!!

I absolutely adored the found family element of this book. I want a spin off of Bea & June & Pez & Nora. They are all so funny together and their friendship is so pure. I also really liked how Zara was part of the found family despite her bitchiness (which personally I loved). I also loved Rafael Luna’s development throughout the story. I was ready to yell at him for awhile there to be honest. He’s such a good mentor to Alex, and getting his backstory helped a lot. He reminded me of Rafael Barbara on SVU but that might just be because of the first name similarity.

This was such a fantastic telling of enemies to lovers to forever.
I was so pleased with the enemies to realizing you’re actually just gay for each other storyline.
The emails!! Oh, the emails. They made my heart sing. More like this please. @ every other queer romance author, I’m looking at you.

I like how Casey McQuiston writes smut. It’s not obnoxious or gross or overly detailed. It’s written in a way that’s steamy and fun and not too serious. I really enjoyed that about this book. They’re a very talented writer!

When Henry pulled away at the lake house my heart broke so hard I had to take a break from reading this book.

When Henry said he bought a brownstone my heart nearly exploded.

Overall, 5 ⭐️s for this gay little book. 🥹

This book is good, and adorable, and cute. Casey McQuiston is a great author, and clearly a very intelligent person. This book is in third person, which I personally didn’t like, it being in 3rd didnt add anything extra to the book.

This is truly a masterpiece of a book. It was simultaneously hilarious, heartbreaking, and vividly wonderful in every sense of the word. I am utterly enamored.

It took me a bit to get into this book -- some of that was the book being written in the present tense and some of it was not liking the characters at first. I found Alex especially to be frustratingly self-centered while also glaringly lacking in self awareness. But I appreciated how this was called out as the story progressed!

The concept was too unrealistic for me (and also just the vast amounts of travel makes me cringe at the environmental impact), but on the whole it was a fun, escapist read.
