I enjoyed this book. It did not feel like there was a lot happening. For the stakes it tried to present they didn’t feel high enough for what happened. There were also parts that I felt like didn’t connect and I didn’t totally see the purpose of.

The actual opposite of "show, don’t tell"

If I told you a summary of the book, you’d think "darn that sounds like a great story. Because it us.

This book could have been a trilogy, and I think it would have been better. The pacing was way off, everything felt rushed and I didn’t feel anything for the characters because it felt like I was only told about them instead of living the adventure with/through them. Some things happened and I wasn’t sure why, some magic happened and it felt a bit like a lazy shortcut with much too long preparation for it. There are political elements that are not satisfyingly resolved and overall, the ending didn’t make much sense to me.

I think the author has potential and I will be reading what they write next.

I loved this book so much! It was prettily written and I loved the emotion it conveyed through each character.
