A superb meditation on exile and return. A beautiful and interesting combination of poetry and prose that gives insight into the mind of a brilliant writer. And finally, a heartbreaking look into the state of a nation on the eve of disaster (the book came out in the year before the 2010 Haitian earthquake). However this is not a depressing or condescending tale of a country but a fascinating look at the artistic history of a nation and the powerful resilience of its people.
