This book made me sick to my stomach at some points while reading. This was a quick read, but also hard to get though at the same time. It’s so hard to believe this is a true story :(

I am not rating this book 2 stars because of the story itself, what happened to those girls was awful. Everyone failed the victims of Shelly. I don’t know how there can be so many stupid people involved in a story. However, I am giving it 2 stars because the writing is some of the worst I’ve ever read in my life. It was so repetitive and read like a really bad script for a true crime documentary. I almost DNF’d the book but pushed through out of curiosity as to how it all ended. Look up the summary and save yourself the time and torture of this book.

This was so disturbing. I had to break up my reading into chunks because it was all just too much. It’s hard to believe this really happened and now the mother is released.

I actually found this book to be extremely interesting. Reading about the inner workings of what its like to grow up with a serial killer, was both fascinating and disturbing. How the girls all had different but also extremely similar experiences, how they all seemed to both love and fear their mother, and what it was like to watch someone be tortured to the point of death without being able to do anything about it was all extremely bone chilling. If you love true crime, i would definitely say you should read this book.
