This book was deep, and at times hard to follow for me. I had previously read the 'Matched' trilogy, and was very interested in reading the companion which is this book. It was a complicated plot, but also very rich. The book wasn't predictable , and there were many plot twists along the way. To specify on the content warnings for those looking for specified warnings, there is little to no sexual content, but moderate violence. Expect gunshot wounds, blood, cuts, infections, and weapon-related injuries. Overall, a well written fantasy adventure book.

It's an enjoyable read but not much about it is memorable. It reads like the first in a series or a trilogy; it doesn't do much as a standalone story but it leaves you curious enough about the world to want to explore more of it and gives you enough of the characters to want to learn more about them and see them grow and become multidimensional.
