- Opened my eyes to the prejudices I hold against overweight people (even if I am considered overweight myself) and specifically morbidly obese people.
- Liked how the chapters were only a couple of pages long at the most - very easy to pop in and out of
- The part at the end where she discusses contacting her rapist got me very emotional
- Made me realize how cruel we are to obese people and how our world is not set up to accommodate them, even if we claim that there is an obesity "epidemic"
- Made me realize how the language we use to describe obese people is incredibly hurtful and inhumane - super morbid, epidemic, etc.
- I am glad that the author realized she is deeply loved while in the hospital
- I felt that while my story is very different from hers, quite a few ideas truly resonated with me.
- Made me think more about sharing stories of sexual abuse and how it can be so hard for people to open up about this, yet somehow certain public situations can encourage people to speak up about their experience and trauma
Disliked:
- Was not what I was expecting. Was expecting a person with an eating disorder (anorexia, etc.) or someone who is very restrictive with food
- Felt like it could have been shorter, while there are some really great insights and reflection I feel that somethings were quite repeatitive
