This book started out a little slow, but by the end I couldn’t put it down. It was a great story of a group of unlikely female friends who stick together to make it through a wild adventure and change the culture around them.

I found the concept of the pack librarians fascinating although I found this story to be very overly dramatic. It was fine but a little too “Hallmark movie” for me.

I'm normally a fan of books by this author, but this one missed the mark for me. I liked the idea of the Packhorse Librarians, and I wanted more about their relationships with each other, and with the people they met on their journeys. There was too much unnecessary drama about the "blood feud" with Margery and the McCulloughs (I could've done without the entire trial storyline, which added nothing to the story IMO), and the petty hatefulness of the senior Van Cleve. I also found that the characters of Beth and Izzy were mostly uninteresting background characters, so their parts were superfluous. I would've enjoyed this much more if the story focused on Alice and Margery and their library routes.

Overall, this just wasn't for me.

It was a little of a slow start for me, but the characters really drew me in.
