2.75 stars - sadly, this is by far my least favourite Joya Goffney book :/ there was a lot that did not make sense to me
Malachai suddenly breaking up with his gf bcs Nikki "left", Nikki's mom suddenly realizing she doesn't want Nikki to leave while they're on bad terms, Vae throwing Nikki under the bus while they're supposed to be super close...?
because they weren't explained well imo. The cover is a bit misleading for me bcs that indicates them going on a trip, which they did, but it was a VERY short one. I did like Nikki and her mom's dynamic being a topic, but that wasn't elaborated on enough bcs it dragged a bit, and when the explanation finally did come, is was vague and not clear. Also, Mal's backstory was interesting but that's about it. The small chapters made it easy and fast to read.

Nikki never had it easy with her mum. So when an opportunity comes up in LA she’s ready to take her chance. But when her best friend Mal finds out he makes her promise a week with him first. This week might just change everything…

Ooft the emotional abusive parent plot line is heavy in this YA! Goffney certainly knows how to pack a punch in the best ways! Much heavier than Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry - My Week With Him deals with much heavier topics but in such an incredible and hopeful way! Suffice to say either way - Goffney’s is a favourite for me!

Joya Goffney never misses. That's it. That's the review because I don't even have the words to describe how beautiful this book is and how I honored I feel to have read it.

I really liked it, it was sweet and sad and heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. And of course Joya totally made it work. Loved all the characters. And they were very relatable to me. All in all a nice lighthearted book, which will definitely make you feel your feelings.

Now I ate up Ms. Goffney’s first two books and thought I’d do the same with this one, but it kinda fell flat to me. However, I will read anything she puts out. This was still a good read.

The book starts off with Nikki trying to leave Texas to pursue her dreams of singing in California, however it seemed like any and everything was standing in her way of doing that.

I wanted to square up with Nikki’s mom so bad cus why do you hate your daughter so much?!?

Overall, the story was just okay. Not as nearly as good and fascinating as her other two books, and based on the title alone I expected more.
