‘Murder on Mustique’ by Anne Glenconner gets a 4.5 stars ⭐️ think Death in Paradise meets Downton Abbey and that pretty much sums this brilliant book up.

I received an ARC of this book via netgalley. I had not realised who Anne Glenconner was. I am intrigued by the book and its mix with reality - in that it is populated by Anne Glenconner hersel (Lady Vee) and a host of the rich and famous alongside a smattering of locals.

It is not a bad book I think it follows the outline from a Writing 101 course - to split it into chunks (the 3 parts have no real purpose in my opinion); to write about what you know (setting and characters) To populate it with enough possible culprits.

I enjoyed learning a little bit about the Coral reef and thought the setting certainly added to the allure of the book. However it seemed almost too easy to solve. I am not sure that i would look for more of her murder mysteries but admit I am intrigued by her book about life with Princess Margaret.

Oh what I would give to escape to a tropical island right now.

Set on a beautiful private island, home to the rich and famous, Murder on Mustique has the perfect backdrop for a classic murder mystery full of glitz and glamour.

With a slight Elin Hilderbrand Paradise feel to this novel it is a quick and easy read. Tropical location, a cyclone brewing, and a missing heiress. Will the island’s only police officer be able to catch the killer in time?

Whilst the characters felt a little one dimensional to me, the story line moved along pretty quickly and the author did a wonderful job of describing the island’s beauty, clearly drawing from her own experiences of the island she and her husband transformed into the paradise it is today.

Unfortunately I just wasn't invested enough in the characters to really enjoy this one and it all just felt a little self absorbed.

I know the author was Princess Margaret's lady-in-waiting but I didn't need to read that on every second page. I have no idea why I finished this book.
