I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, thank you!

Publication: October 2nd, 2014

I'm a huge fan of QI, let's start with that. I'm also a very big fan of these random facts that don't really matter but are still nice to learn. If you like these same things, I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with the new work the QI Elves have produced.

The book is basically a list with all 1411 (I'm just believing there are in fact 1411 facts in this book, I haven't actually counted). If you would check the background on these facts there's a site that will provide it for you (qi.com/1411) but as I'm writing this now the site isn't working (yet). I suppose it will be up once the book is published.

I read it almost in one go. It was very readable and I thought it was nice to see what they had associated (as there usually seemed to be some kind of association between one fact and the next one). But I can also imagine this could be a very nice toilet book (though I had an egalley and I don't know if the dimensions of the book will support that statement), or otherwise in the waiting room for the dentist or something like that. I think many people will enjoy reading (parts of) this book, and I'm going to look for copies of the earlier editions, even though they had less than 1411 facts...

Some of my favourites:

* 1 in 10 Americans thinks HTML is a STD

* The underpants the Brussels Mayor donated to the Brussels Underpants Museum were stolen in 2014 (There is an underpants museum?!)

Review:

Love these little facts. Really make you think

Review previously placed on my blog:

I'm currently reading 1411 facts to knoch you sideways by John Lloyd and John Mitchinson. This is the third book in the Quite interesting facts series. Reading a copy from the library. I'm reading this for my Reading more nonfiction challenge. Reading this for the Final Book Support Group readathon.

You're probably wondering how this can be fun to read, but it really is. The facts in here literally knock you sideways. It's just fun to read and fun to know these facts.

I just really enjoy these books. They are fun and quick to read. Some facts are actually pretty shocking. Highly recommend it if you want to read a quick nonfiction.

A handy little book to pick up some random facts. Some were quite surprising, others have since been dispelled, as the introduction warns. For example, Yoda's first name as listed in this book is not actually canon in the Star Wars universe.

It's a quick read, which has helped me as I have suddenly stalled reading and was struggling to focus on my other books.

This are super fast reads, which means I gobble them up... and then promptly forget most of the facts. But I still super enjoy reading stuff like this. Not sure most of the facts really "knocked me sideways" but it was fun all the same.

Favorite fact: 1 in 10 Americans think HTML is a sexually transmitted disease.

Synopsis

The third book in the QI series, following on from 1,227 QI Facts to Blow Your Socks Off and 1,399 QI Facts to Make Your Jaw Drop is the consistently titled 1,411 QI Facts to Knock You Sideways and it is definitely a book that will keep you entertained for hours and make you “top-dog” at an pub quiz.*

I won’t lie to you, I love a good factoid. I can’t help but feel a little smug and superior when I drop a little tidbit into conversation among my friends and watch as the th shock, awe and sheer impressiveness of the fact washes across their little faces.

Therefore, the QI books are, in my ever so humble opinion, perfect. The third in the series, 1,411 QI Facts to Knock You Sideways, is no less impressive. In all of the facts found in between the pages there was only one that I already knew.

My favourite of all the facts was the following:

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, has towns called Intercourse and Paradise. It takes six minutes to get from one to the other.

Pick up all of these books to find out more.

1,411 QI Facts to Knock You Sideways by John Lloyd, John Mitchinson and James Harkin is available from October 9th, 2014

Great facts though some are of questionable origin. The only fact book I have ever been able to find
