First of all the author seems confused about democracy, socialism, and communism. They seem to interchange them without having character thinking  actually supporting the claim. Also, many female characters over think and this one did not.

This book takes you through a story of a fictional librarian during world war 2 Europe. The plot is good and I will say there are a lot of twists and turns in the story but they keep you on the edge of your seat some even break your heart so heads up but such a great read!!!

Most of the dialogue sounded the same - like any of the characters could have been saying what was being said. None of the characters really felt individual and unique. I wonder if this was because this is a translation.
Still, I felt the main character mostly had things happening around her and only was involved in things because they happened to her. Even when she did come up with a plan or an idea, someone else would execute it for her.
It was interesting to read about Saint-Malo and to see the town’s journey through the war, IMO more so than most of the characters’ journeys.
