The Uncle Tom's Cabin of the guided age, which shows the brutality of the system of laissez faire capitalism. This book is becoming more relevant by the day as some people in the US government seek to remove most pro-worker regulations, taking the US backwards to an era of history that should never be repeated.

eye opening book especially considering the context it was written in, i was already a leftist when i started reading but it definitely added fuel to the fire
only complaints are the racist portrayals of black people in the book and the class reductionist ending (meaning socialism was promoted as the ‘cure-all’ for every single problem on earth, insinuating that abolishing capitalism automatically means the patriarchy/white supremacy/heteronormativity/etc are abolished as well. basically, lacking intersectional, but what can you expect from a cis white guy from the 30s-40s(?) who started a white-only commune)
