As the two main characters make peace with the past, they must also re-discover peace with God, and that's a story so relatable for so many of us.  While the writing in this one felt (maybe appropriately) a little "rough around the edges," my favorite thing about Susan May Warren's books continues to be the way her characters struggle for faith through legitimately difficult situations. I enjoyed this!

I liked the sense of adventure and despair mixed with hope this story told. I also enjoyed all of my feelings and thoughts being reflected at certain points as two people both holding hope and being disillusioned by the inner-city. The characters were nicely developed and I liked the narrative.

Aw a sweet ending, and quite the twist! I enjoyed it but there were enough things like the cheesy dialogue and Anne’s emotional highs and lows that weren’t super enjoyable. I’m glad I finished it, and thanks for the buddy read Nicole!!

Couldn't get into this - didn't like either of the main characters or their story enough to finish it. A pity, because I enjoyed the first one in the series and will probably try others by this author.

I kind of wish there was a three and a half star option because that's what I'd give this book. There was a good premise to the story, but I ended up not liking it as well as the first Deep Haven book. I felt like the middle could have been shortened a lot because it kept repeating the turmoil of the main character, Anne, over and over and over. The fact that she was having inner angst could have been described in a much shorter way - I definitely got it without all of the crying episodes. It seemed like Anne pitched a crying fit every other chapter. For a man who seemed so tough, Noah (the hero) was immediately besotted with Anne. He even seemed to enjoy her emotional fits of extreme happiness and extreme anger. It just felt strange because in my opinion, if a woman does nothing but cry and throw fits, the man will decide to stop pursuing her and run for the hills... but that could just be me. Overall, the book was a fun, light read, but I could have done without all the crazy drama in the middle and skipped right to the interesting part at the end.

I am a sucker for any book that has to do with helping kids. Add a slightly suspenseful element, and I was hooked.
