Continue to enjoy this series. In this story Garrett is faced with a complex plot that has a mysterious cult, a person from his childhood and several new characters. As the story moves, and the bodies add up Garrett is forced to do some questionable things like breaking and entering and turning Morley lose. In the end, Garrett finds a way to solve the mystery with help from his friends and the cities linchpin. As the story wraps up, winter is setting in.
Recommend this series to anyone that is interested in PI and fantasy stories. This has a definite urban fantasy vibe with the exception that the urban setting isn't part of our world.

It's hard to write a good sci fi or fantasy mystery. It's easy to fall into the trap of relying too heavily on the world to solve the mystery. The second book in this series, [b:Bitter Gold Hearts|1037242|Bitter Gold Hearts (Garrett P.I., #2)|Glen Cook|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1388274715s/1037242.jpg|286163] did better in that respect, but this book falls more in line with the first in the series, [b:Sweet Silver Blues|400878|Sweet Silver Blues (Garrett P.I., #1)|Glen Cook|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1297624038s/400878.jpg|1394270]. The titles are still awesome though.
However, if you are a fan of the Dresden Files, this series is probably worth checking out. My criticisms of the Dresden Files are similar to my criticisms of this series, so if the same things don't bother you in one series they probably won't bother you in the other. And hey, Cook did it first.
