Darklight was my favourite of the four excellent novellas in the Tear Me Apart collection, because I really enjoyed the mysteriousness of the underground setting and the challenges the protagonist faces to overcome fears and seek the truth. I really liked the sense of tension created by the fact that the group leader is essentially controlling all the women, such that the protagonist must escape undetected. There are some really hair-raising moments that felt very visual, notably the part where they need to cross a bridge. The story really had me on the edge of my seat throughout its entirety, and the romance is such a great addition to the story as it breaks down that layer of "them versus us" created through the division of the sexes and also the scaremongering of the "Brutes". Highly recommended!
