I wanted to go into this with no expectations because I have read all of marked men and saints of Denver probably hundreds of times over the years at this point so there were too many ways it could’ve gone for me to go into this with any thoughts. That being said it still blew my mind because it was better then I could’ve ever possibly imagined. I feel like starting with Ry sets up the possibility for continuing the series perfectly.

Although I do think this book would be good on its own to get the full picture I feel as though you really should read at minimum the marked men series but ideally both marked men and saints of Denver.

Jay managed to tie the old books in with a new story so perfectly without it seeming too stuck in the old books or too distanced from the old books, all the characters have such strong and distinctive personalities and traits that translates through this new book and it give a homey feeling because the characters feel like they are truly just in the future and being checked in on; it doesn’t feel like a sequel it flows well I guess is what I’m trying to say.

Now to get into the book itself: I was crying and laughing more times then Normal because the emotion in this book is so strong. The next generation of kids are written to be the perfect combination of parents and as a long time reader you can really see the prior characters traits in the kids in a way that is very unique to this series, and considering how large this spider web of people are I think jay did a fantastic job making sure the next generation characters would be a strong representation of their parents while still keeping individuality in the kids character.

The last half of the book moves really quickly and although I normally enjoy that it almost felt too quick because of the level of emotion there although the subtle detail being there does make it feel less rushed *SPOILERS PAST THIS POINT* the small details that jay puts in the book to reference things from the past are what in my mind made this book as good as it was. The part where they hook up back stage is a perfect nod to Jet and Ayden especially because of the little things like Ayden alluding to how her and jet used to do that which you see in his book.

The crash scene and Remy coming to Ry while he’s fighting nearly took me out however…jay really went for your heart strings with that one. Between Daire asking Ry to help her in the same kinda way that Rule asked Remy and the similarities of it all to how Remy passed was nearly too much for me but then you have the nod to Romes book where Remy comes to Ry while he’s unconscious and says it’s not your time you have to fight and that whole conversation which was such a beautiful nod to Romes accident and how Remy told him to fight for Cora and soon to be baby Remy.

All said and done Jay absolutely killed this book and I REALLY hope we get to see this series continue with the rest of the kids. If you were looking to read this book then I say that you would be silly not to and I couldn’t recommend more reading the 2 prior series if you haven’t already, Trust me it’s worth it!
