This very well might be the best book I have ever had the pleasure of reading.

My first book by Roxane Gay, but definitely not my last! Her writing style is so gripping, and her timing is always just right. Her experiences with her body, though unique to her, have so many universal themes for anyone existing in a body in our society. The content is dark and introspective but still entertaining. Learning from her and finding the words for some phenomena that I have struggled with was a pleasure.

A powerful, raw & visceral memoir with very difficult subject matter at it's core. Gay is very honest in her experience and that emotion and rage of what happened to her as a child comes off the page.

It's critical to remember just how much our own childhood experiences and those we were affected by, shape the people we become in adulthood. This is such a difficult read but I appreciate the authors openness in sharing her experience. I hope this story helps those who are in need of a voice.

A great book, such difficult subject matter but Roxane Gay does an amazing job at telling her story. I felt so connected to her and so aware the whole time I was reading. Made me very aware of my body and confronted many of the same thoughts I have about what it feels like to exist and move in this world. Also made me more aware of how others may feel. Why have we come to a point where we all have to be so obsessed with our bodies and how do we escape this?
