I can't believe it's taken me this long to read anything by Roxane Gay, but dang this hit hard. It's fascinating how this was a memoir but based totally around her body: the trauma her body was subjected to, her self image, her weight, her ability to love and be loved, and mental health, it all harkens back to her body. There's a lot of tough subject matter, and it hits so dang hard.

It is always strange to rate a memoir. What am I rating here? The story of her life? Her ability to articulate the story of her life? How much her story moved me? I think we end up with the latter most often and I know that's neither good nor bad but somewhere in a grey area. I can't imagine being brave enough to put something like this out there in the world.
