The first half of this book was some of the worst published writing I have ever suffered through. It was full of cliches and the descriptions of Angelli were just straight up offensive. The world building was poorly done but the concept kept me reading. The story did get better as it went along and I enjoyed the twists near the end. I doubt I will be reading more of her work though.

Review of the sneak peek can also be found in my blog: http://www.nightowlreads.org/2012/09/review-archived-sneak-peek.html

I loved it. It's a unique story with and intriguing plot. Since it's only a sneak peek, there's still much more to learn about this world. So far it's only been about Mac and her job as a Keeper, and how she misses family members she'd lost.

Mac looks back to when she first trained for the job she was too young for, but asked to be part of. At the same time adjusting to the new life her parents want for everyone.

The book I read stopped at a part when something was revealed to Mac and it just got more exciting for me. What more can I say? Simply put, The Archived is unique, intriguing, amazingly written. I can't wait to read the rest of this novel, too bad it won't be released until January.

UPDATE! [May 3, 2013]

Finished the whole book. LOVED IT! <3

Original rating for the sneak peek was 4 but after finishing the whole thing, I had to give it a 5!

I cannot wait for the next book. A lot of questions were unanswered and there is still that mysterious murder that happened in her room that needs to be solved. Why? I don't know. It just has to be. It's sad though that he had to forget what happened. I seriously thought he would be allowed to remember, and it would certainly help her solve the mystery. 2014 come sooner!

This book was amazing . It was fast pace and didn't give a chance to put it down. There a lot of hipe about this book on book tube and I expected so much and I think I can say that it stood up to it. I always wanted to read this book and when I was on my procrastinating-from-studing period this book came in ruined everything by being so amazing. Now I can never go back to studying . I love the main character and how strong , awesome she was. It was such a mysterious book and all the time it kept me edge. Victoria schwab is a wonderful writer and I loved her writing style. I am really looking forward to read the next one.

Vau. Vau. The Archived oli jotain todella mahtavaa, uniikkia ja jännittävää. Onneksi toinen osa odottaa pöydänkulmalla, sillä taidan tarttua siihen melkeinpä heti.

THREE STARS.

Makenzie is inducted in childhood into a special job by her Da -- Keeper of the Narrows, the hallways that separate the Library from the real world. The dead in this world have their bodies and memories replicated, animated corpse-like, in the Library, and seeks constantly to escape should they awake, going mad with terror as they do. Mackenzie's job is to send them back into sleep and storage. Hers is a double-life, lived in secrecy.

Since then, her Da passes away, and so does her younger brother Ben, a trauma that virtually tears her family apart. To start anew, her mother moves them to the Coronado, an old hotel. Here Makenzie is assigned new territory, meets a goth boy, and tries to deal with all the change.

SpoilerThe number of escaping dead multiplies. She meets Owen, one of the dead who does not go insane upon awakening. She lets him have a day, sleeps with him, and finds a series of letters and items for him in the Coronado. Turns out he lived there many decades ago, when his sister is murdered, followed by several residents. Except the record of these murders have been erased somehow, in the outside world AND in the Library. Turns out Owen was Crew -- a higher level operative than Keeper -- who revived the replica of his sister and killed to keep her revival a secret, then jumped off the roof garden in order to incorporate after death with his memories intact rather than have them erased by the Librarians. After revival, he colludes with his old partner, a current Librarian, to constantly wake the dead as distraction, with plans to ultimately destroy the Library. Makenzie inadvertently gives him back a copy of his old Crew key, then send him into the void.

Well-written but fundamentally unbelievable. What is the point of having all our memories stored as bodies that look and act like us, but isn't? Who is reading them? Why bother? How can they be read, if they instantly want to escape and go crazy upon awakening? It all seems very inefficient. I also take issue with the idea that the living, out of love, will do anything to revive the dead. The course of grief is different for everyone. Finally, Westley is classic too-selfless-to-be-true dude, a la Titanic's Jack Dawson. Worth a read, but very uneven.

4.25 stars?
I loved this book. I was a little skeptical at the beginning, but the entire idea of the world is just fantastic and gorgeous and lovely. I love V.E. Schwab's writing style, and Mac was such a great character to follow in this book. I even - GASP - didn't mind the love triangle, because it panned out perfectly at the end. I will definitely have to pick up the sequel very soon!
