I went into this book trying to get out of a reading slump. I wasn't 100% sure what this book was going to be about but I wasn't expecting a twist on the Princess Bride! But I love the Princess Bride so I did enjoy this quite a lot. There were a few scenes I thought seemed a little too similar to the Princess Bride but overall I really enjoyed it! I loved Ama and Luca. Luca is so sweet and gentle I want to protect him! How book one ends definitely makes my curious on what's going to end up happening in the other books!!

I guess I gotta skip YA books because I'm so very tired of the "I know better than anybody else" teen hero.
Writing is fine, premise is interesting.   I would read a sequel if it was in my hands, but wouldn't search for it.

When people die, they become a collection of memories in The Archive called histories. Sometimes, those collections wake up and try to leave. That's where people like Mac come in. Mac is a keeper, and her job is to return awakened histories. When her family moves to an old hotel to start over from the grief of losing their youngest family member, Mac comes face to face in a mystery she may not be equipped to handle.

I really enjoyed the world building in this book. This was a fun read and I enjoyed the ride. I was mildly disappointed in some things that happened at the ending, but it wasn't because those things didn't feel earned. I just had a more intriguing idea of what was going on than what was really happening. My biggest complaint is that this falls prey to the common trope that a boy and girl MUST kiss or fall in love if in close proximity. No friends, no asexual or aromantic people. I hated that when I was a teen too.

Very sad, dark subject manner. Just wasn’t in the mood for that.
