the story was good, and i really appreciated the afterword that explained the backstory to the author writing it. however, the plot didn’t feel fully developed. it was definitely still good though.

Heartbreaking and devastating. Delicately and beautifully written. I marvel at how, as the book progresses, it's revealed how much Nuri's point of view appears to be so matter-of-fact, but trauma has deeply affected his perception and interactions with the world.

Such a beautiful and moving book about the Syrian war, and how people are affected in different ways by the trauma caused. I loved the way the book moved from past to present, as it flowed so well.

This grew on me a lot, and by the end I was SO invested in Afra and Nuri, even more so than their terrifying journey! Beware of all the content warnings, it's a very heavy read.
