This was a fun beach read and I loved the banter between the main characters but it lacked in some aspects. I didn't really expect a good mystery in a romance novel but I was still heavily disappointed by it. However, props to this book and Tessa Bailey for giving me an epilogue with proposal that I actually liked.

I had reasonably high expectations for this book, but they were not met. The mystery aspect was OK - I wasn’t expecting Agatha Christie, so I was pleasantly surprised and I never guessed who the killer was or what their motive was. However, the romance aspect killed it for me. I loathe insta-love stories, and this was super insta-love. I already had reservations about Taylor, a timid people pleaser, but meeting Myles was the last nail in the coffin. When he stole her underwear the first time he met Taylor, I just couldn’t see how she would be attracted to him. I see the attraction in the grump in a sunshine/grump pairing, or the strong, silent brooder, but an actual red flag & reason to get police involved is where I draw the line. His possessive behaviour that follows - literally “I licked her so she’s mine, but she’s so pure & I’m beating myself up about my past, so I won’t, but no other guy can breathe in her direction” - was unappealing. There’s a fine line with romance tropes, and maintaining a balance between dialling it back or amping it up too much is an art, but I feel that this was dialled up to 15/10 for most of the book, and it just did not work for me at all.

my killer vacation by tessa bailey

so this book wasnt for me

i didnt love this. i liked the concept of a spicy murder mystery but this wasnt it. i wish there was more murder mystery solving. i forgot about the murder in the middle of the book lol bc i was not having it with the male mc. the romance part just wasnt for me probably bc i couldn’t stand the male mc lolol and i didnt like the insta lust/love. there was also a lot of inner monologuing. i can see why a lot of people might have liked this but i did not. but try it out for yourself! its also a really short read so that’s a plus?

I didn’t have the highest expectations going into this, and I’m glad for it because this was in no way groundbreaking. The mystery/thriller aspect was just good enough to keep my attention. It took me some time to warm up to the FMC, Taylor; she toed the line of being too quirky for me, but things worked out and she was actually quite nice.

The real standout for me was Myles. He had me in a chokehold from the start. Myles, the ex detective with PTSD from a case gone wrong who became a bounty hunter. Myles, who kept everyone at arm’s length so he’d never let anyone down again. Myles, who couldn’t understand why he couldn’t stay away from Taylor even though he told her they could never be together. Myles, who was upset when Taylor respected his boundaries even though it was the last thing his body wanted. Myles, who became a desperate mess when anything happened to Taylor. Oh, and he had a filthy mouth and knew how to use it. I could go on and on, but this man was a very nice surprise. He deserved a better book.
