Reading for book group
You can tell by my one star I did not like this book. There were constantly new characters being thrown into the story. Almost none of them were developed very much. The story line would jump forward suddenly and I felt like it wasn't easy to tell how much later it was. Also the "villain" (besides the bad eggs in the group whose story lines fell very flat) was an atmospheric phenomenon that you never find out why it happens. Very unsatisfying!

I liked the characters and the overall plot is good. The plot is so wide-ranging that the feeling I got while reading was more that I was following the lives of the many characters. It's an enjoyable start to all the events that come afterward in the Pern series.

I'm a sucker for origin stories, love Pern, and love Dick Hill, so the audio book version was a win for me. Almost done with it, love it! Dick Hill's narration brought me to tears a few times.
