Zu Beginn fand ich es schwer in dieses Buch abzutauchen und musste mich erst einlesen. Die immer wieder plötzlich aufkommenden Verweise auf den zweiten Weltkrieg haben fehl am Platz gewirkt und wirkten unauthentisch. 
Mit dem Voranschreiten der Geschichte aber habe ich das Buch mehr und mehr genossen, die Charaktere und Sprache lieben gelernt. "Offene See" ist ein wunderbarer Roman, dessen deutsche Übersetzung selbst oft an Lyrik grenzt und dessen Handlung eine wunderschöne Erzählung über das zu sich Selbst finden und Freundschaft über Generationen hinweg ist.

This is one if those books where I genuinely feel like my view on life is just a little brighter, a little more colorful and a little better after having read it.

The relationship that the two main characters have is everything I want in life.

And the poetic way the novel was written speaks to me in every way. 

I genuinely love this book.
