A beautiful story of a father and a daughter. At times, the stark prose reminded me of Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’, albeit thematically this novel depicts a lot more natural beauty and awe of nature.

The various musing on life, death, and grieving spoke to me. I think Dad would have enjoyed this one.

Here’s my favorite quote:
“For although he no longer walks beside you, he still remains in the time and place of memory and this is where he will appear again and again, as often as you will seek him. Not only in those places where he has always been but where he could not be then yet will be now.”

Species become extinct all the time. In this story mankind ends but it's not so bad! A surprisingly peaceful end to the human race.

In short, this book is so good. Short, but powerful

very beautifully written but definitely lulled a bit after
Spoilerthe girl's father died.
it was still a cozy, sweet, poetic read - I loved the natural landscape and animal visitors. a lonely and still setting, but quiet & peaceful, in its way, and that's what I loved about it.

I was left with some questions - how did the world come to this state? and how can these two even be so sure they're actually the last two people on earth if they're so isolated? - but honestly... I don't think they're actually that important to have an answer to, because after thinking about it, I don't think that answering those kinds of question is what the book set out to do. I don't think it's that type of narrative, and I kind of like that about it. it's definitely a nice break from action-filled post apocalypse stories, which aren't always my thing, so this was a breath of fresh air.

lovely read, but had me hoping for a little more depth.
