Loved it until I got to the end. The plot twist left me feeling weird.

READ FOR BOOKCLUB - Have read a few of Jodi Picoult's works before. Less literary, more fun fiction.

Fun and easy read. The mystery is nicely paced, and the multiple narratives are done well, albeit the Jenna narration is painful (listening to a teenage inner monologue should be however, so maybe this indicates writing excellence?).

The main let down of this book however was the chapters of Jenna narrating her life as a 3 year old. Maybe I didn't care enough about her character to think her childness was cute, but I felt like these chapters could have been ommitted with no consequence to the plot.

I was considering the lackluster trio of Jenna, Virgil and Serenity and how mundane they seemed, wishing their characters were more animated, but realised the contrast between the very flatness of the present day (with baggage and struggles) gave the elephants, sanctuaries and the keepers of Alice's narrations a rosey tint of adventure.
