Spoiler
the book ending is a lot different from the movie ending. If you watched the movie before you read this like I did, the movie ending set a very different expectation for the actual play than the play delivered. Although Claire (play) and Clara (movie) are the same character, the two versions remove or add details that alter our perception of her and thus the endings are influenced from that as well. I definitely preferred the movie ending as I thought it was a more apt punishment for Serge (movie!Ill) to receive because living knowing that everyone surrounding you would have, at one point, killed you for monetary gain is a great punishment for him to live with. The play ending made sense but I think just letting him die was weak comparatively, although it made sense for the tone of the play. Will say that the ending of this did bring my rating down though.Moderate: Misogyny and Animal cruelty
Minor: Murder, Xenophobia, Child death, Racism, Animal death, Alcohol, Death, and Pregnancy
