After reading Hamnet I fancied finding out more about Shakespeare. This wasn't really the book for that. This had more info on his plays etc which isnt what I wanted to know.

However it means my reading challenge is complete!

It was okay but don't read it if you are expecting the normal Bryson laughs. They are not here. A little dry.

I can't get enough of this era of history and Bill Bryson has such a delightful, readable style, e.g.:
"All that is missing to connect [the Countess of Pembroke] with Shakespeare is anything to connect her with Shakespeare." 🙂
A really nice overview of the man and his time.

Very little is known about Shakespeare. That is why this book is very short. I wish we could time travel.
